Reith to Ride Rain Affair in Doomben 10,000 2013

Jockeys for Saturday week’s 2013 Doomben 10,000 are starting to take shape with Christian Reith the latest to book a ride in the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival showdown, the smart Sydney hoop snapping up the mount on the in-form Joe Pride-trained Rain Affair.

Originally connections of the Commands five-year-old were looking to retain Hugh Bowman for the $650,000 Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) on May 25 after the top jockey rode Rain Affair for their brave second to Your Song in the mud at Eagle Farm earlier in the month in the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m).

Bowman however has opted to jump off Rain Affair, who was also a credible second behind the since retired All Too Hard in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) on Sydney Cup Day, in favour of a shot with BTC Cup winner Your Song.

Anthony Cummings’ super consistent Fastnet Rock colt Your Song leapfrogged to the front of both Doomben 10,000 betting and the early markets for the $1.36 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 8 after their first-up BTC Cup success where they put five lengths on Rain Affair.

Your Song has been ridden by Peter Robl for their six most recent runs but their regular hoop will miss vying for back-to-back Group 1 trophies with them due to suspension.

Bowman meanwhile will be reuniting with the up-and-coming champ for the first time since riding them to a third behind Albrecht on debut at Canterbury in June last year.

In Doomben 10,000 markets paying $3.20 for Your Song, Rain Affair occupies the fourth line of betting at $8 and Reith is more than happy with those odds.

The Doomben 10,000 will be the third time Reith takes the reins on Rain Affair having ridden them for a three length Canterbury win in May of 2011 and then again for their eye-catching second behind Atlantic Jewel in last year’s All Aged Stakes.
