Having just won the Group 1 BTC Cup with Your Song, Sydney trainer Anthony Cummings can claim another big winner’s cheque on Saturday when exciting filly Missy Cummings stars as favourite in the $500,000 2013 Inglis Guineas (1400m) at Scone.
One of the highlight events at Scone’s two-day racing carnival, the three-year-sprint contains a strong field but Missy Cummings is a clear $3.40 favourite in the betting market.
The daughter of Magnus is unbeaten from three starts since making her debut in April. At her most recent outing she recorded black-type success when winning the Listed Carr Stakes by more than a length.
Second favourite in betting is Flying Snitzel ($5.50) who struggled at her past two starts but has class on her side.
In the early autumn the Gerald Ryan-trained galloper proved herself when beating boom filly Norzita in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes.
The only other runners under double figures are Team Hawkes-trained colt Ninth Legion and Gai Waterhouse’s Ashokan.
Ninth Legion has been consistent for the majority of his campaign but will need to bounce back from a horror 10th on a heavy track in the Queensland Day Plate.
Prior to that he put together back-to-back runner-up finishes in the Bendigo Guineas and the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes.
Ashokan is a recent addition to Gai Waterhouse’s stable, having been formerly trained by John O’Shea.
The More Than Ready colt was third in the Hawkesbury Guineas at his most recent outing.
Other key chances in the Inglis Guineas include Mick Price-trained gelding Hirad ($11), last-start winner Wine ‘n’ Dine ($11) and in-form country galloper Single Spirit ($17).
