Smart 2013 Luskin Star Stakes Field Released for Scone Carnvial

Following the action of Scone Cup Day this Friday the Scone Cup Carnival continues on Saturday with five more black type races on the card including the Luskin Star Stakes 2013.

Due to run as Scone Race 5 at 2:40pm (AEST) this year’s $140,000 Listed Luskin Star Stakes (1300m) has drawn a full field of 16 starters plus a sole emergency in the John Thompson-trained Mr Armstrong.

Heading the field and weights with a big 60.5kg allocation is the Clarry Conners-trained Decision Time who will be ridden by Nash Rawiller from gate 10.

The Foreplay five-year-old is a multiple Group 1 placegetter including second to the ill-fated Crystal Lily in the 2010 Golden Slipper as a juvenile and more recently their third to the freakish Bel Sprinter in The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill back in March.

Following Decision Time in the weights are then the Peter Snowden-trained Skytrain (60kg) coming off a second in the Hall Mark Stakes at Randwick, and Chris Waller’s in-form Riva De Lago (58.5kg) who has drawn ideally in gate three with Hugh Bowman in the saddle.

Encosta De Lago gelding Riva De Lago enjoyed successive Rosehill wins during the summer before running second firstly to Skyerush in the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) and then to Havana Rey in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) in March.

Waller will also be represented in the Luskin Star this year by his O’Reilly four-year-old Said Com who suffered a blow drawing the extreme outside gate.

Other big name trainers with entries in the classic then include Gai Waterhouse with the rails-drawn import The Offer who makes their Australian debut here, and Grahame Begg with Fedde in gate five with Glyn Schofield riding.

Other notable hopes then include Tracey Bartley’s veteran nine-year-old Sniper’s Bullet, Hidden Warrior coming off a Rosehill win from last Saturday, and last start Hawkesbury winner Agister.
