Narrow last start winner of the Wagga Wagga Gold Cup, Jason Coyle’s Scream Machine will back-up this Friday attempting a country cups double in the 2013 Scone Cup.
The progressive Excites four-year-old took their career record to five wins from 21 starts at Wagga on May 3 when overcoming barrier 14 (of 15) to take out the Listed Wagga Wagga Gold Cup (2000m).
This week they will drop back to a mile for a shot at back-to-back black types in the $200,000 Listed Emirates Park Scone Cup (1600m) which drew 32 nominations earlier in the week.
The Wagga Cup was Scream Machine’s maiden stakes success and Coyle is hoping they can keep the ball rolling despite their less than impressive record over the shorter distance.
So far the form coming out of Wagga has held up with the Chris Waller-trained Moriarty backing up from their fifth to Scream Machine to score a decisive victory in the Listed Lord Mayors Cup (2000m) at Rosehill last Saturday.
Scream Machine gets in well with the Scone Cup weights too with 55kg, just half a kilo increase from last start, the top-weighted entries being the Gai Waterhouse-trained duo of Epsom Handicap winner Fat Al (61kg) and Somepin Anypin (58kg).
Also with multiple entries is the in-form Waller who could start the likes of Illo, Firebolt and his Rowley Mile runner-up Beaten Up who will also be accepted for the $500,000 Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) in Brisbane on Saturday with the barrier draw there to determine which race they start in.
The Rowley Mile winner Mouro from the Adelaide stables of Tony McEvoy is also on track for a Scone Cup start, the Grand Slam stallion to go up two kilos to 56kg.
