Miss Stellabelle Heads 2013 Dark Jewel Classic Field

Gai Waterhouse’s classy mare Miss Stellabelle heads a quality field for the $200,000 Listed Darley Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) which is one of the feature races at Scone on Saturday for the second day of the Scone Cup Carnival.

Running as Race 6 at 3:15pm (AEST) the Dark Jewel Classic 2013 drew a bumper 16 starters plus three emergencies at acceptance stage with the field and weights led by Miss Stellabelle with 58kg.

The daughter of Dehere carried the same weight last start for her close fourth when beaten only a length by Aerobatics in the Listed Darley Crown (1300m) at Haweksbury at the start of the month, before which she ran top three behind Arinosa in two Group 3 Sydney races.

Following Miss Stellabelle in the Dark Jewel Classic weights are then the Peter Snowden-trained Octagonal six-year-old Shannara (57kg) drawn nicely in gate two and the now locally-trained Soft Sand (56kg) who was second to Appearance in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) during the Melbourne Cup Carnival when prepared by Colin Little.

There are two last start winners in the mix this year with Victorian raider City Of Song who won back-to-back races at Moonee Valley this time in and David Pfieffer’s Cradle Me coming off a 3.5 length effort over 1400m at Warwick Farm – drawn in gates 12 and three respectively.

Other notable hopes then include the Anthony Cummings-trained Hawkesbury Crown runner-up Arctic Flight, third place-getter in that race Pipette for Chris Waller, and Peter Moody’s Mossman four-year-old Plucky Belle.

A notable defector from the Dark Jewel Classic meanwhile was Waller’s dual Group 1 winning New Zealand expat Say No More who will instead take on the boys in the $200,000 Listed Scone Cup (1600m) the day before.

The complete Dark Jewel Classic field, barriers, jockeys and weights for this weekend are detailed below.
