Paul Messara’s talented galloper Mahisara faces a tough ask in an open 2013 BRC Sprint (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday after receiving barrier 18.
It has been a shocking start to the four-year-old’s Queensland winter campaign who was fourth in the Prime Minister’s Cup at the Gold Coast from barrier 16.
Trainer Paul Messara told AAP he is frustrated at the draw, suggesting his charge just needs some luck to return to the winner’s circle.
“The horse is ready to win but he can’t get a decent alley,” Messara said.
He drew 16 originally at the Gold Coast and now 18 at Doomben which makes his job virtually impossible.”
Mahisara will carry 54.5kg in the BRC Sprint, 4.5kg less than topweight Hot Snitzel.
Mahisrara was a Group 3 winner at the spring carnival but has failed to cross the line in front in three starts this time in.
Apart from the wide barrier, the son of More Than Ready will also have to defeat a hot field to taste success this weekend.
Among his chief rivals this weekend will be Prime Minister’s Cup winner Famous Seamus and Peter Moody’s tough sprinter Ready To Rip.
Famous Seamus is the likely favourite as he chases a third straight win and attempts to press his claims for a Stradbroke Handicap berth.
Ready To Rip won at Listed level at Caulfield before arriving in Queensland but struggled when sixth in the Victory Stakes last start.
In an open field there are plenty of chances and other notable runners include Prime Minister’s Cup placegetters River Lad and Fire Up Fifi and Joe Pride’s See The World.
