Dear Demi Cops Visitor’s Draw – The Roses 2013 Final Field and Barriers

Sydney filly Dear Demi will have to overcome a “visitor’s draw” if she is to be successful in Saturday’s 2013 The Roses (2000m) at Doomben.

The Clarry Conners-trained Group 1 winner has received barrier 20 for the traditional Queensland Oaks lead-up as she attempts to add another feature to outstanding resume.

The daughter of Dehere scored Group 1 honours during the spring in the Crown Oaks and from her five wins from 20 starts, four have been at black-type level.

Dear Demi is coming off a strong Sydney autumn campaign where she won the Group 2 Surround Stakes and finished second in the Australian Oaks.

Drawing far better in barrier five is Express Power who is set to start among the favourites after a strong Gold Coast Bracelet win. Express Power has form around Australian Oaks winner Royal Descent.

Express Power is part of a dual-pronged Kris Lees assault on The Roses, joined by Gold Coast Bracelet runner-up Soapy Star.

Another southern raider chasing success in the three-year-old fillies’ race is Pat Carey’s Gondokoro who finished third in the Australian Oaks.

Stepping up in class but in outstanding form is Steven Wilson-trained galloper Just As Cosmic.

The Sydney-based filly will chase a fourth straight win after succeeding at Hawkesbury, Canterbury and Wagga.

Also rising in grade but in good form is local hope Magic In Motion who has won her past two starts for Brisbane’s top trainer Robert Heathcote.

Other The Roses contenders include Gai Waterhouse’s filly Vaquera, Group 2 winner Kazanluk and the Gold Coast-based Dolphus.
