Capacity 2013 BRC Sprint Field Announced

A full field of hot sprinters has been announced to contest the Group 3 2013 BRC Sprint (1350m) which is the final event on Doomben’s eight-race Saturday program.

Sixteen horses plus five emergencies have been named for the $125,000 sprint including in-form Stradbroke-bound gelding Famous Seamus.

The Sydney-based sprinter was solid in three starts in Sydney and Newcastle before arriving in Queensland to score back-to-back Listed wins.

His last win came in the Prime Minister’s Cup where he defeated River Lad and Fire Up Fifi.

The pair will be out to turn the tables this weekend and both have drawn superbly, with River Lad receiving barrier four and Fire Up Fifi barrier five.

There is certainly no shortage of southern raiders in the field and likely to appreciate a drop back in grade is Fontelina.

From the stable of in-form trainer of Anthony Cummings, the four-year-old was a well-beaten 13th in the Doncaster but won at Group 2 level in the Yellowglen Stakes during the spring.

Other horses making the trip north include Peter Moody’s consistent gelding Ready To Rip and the Joe Pride-trained See The World.

See the World won the Listed McCArton Stakes in Sydney in March and has since finished third in both the Group 3 Sebring Stakes and the Listed Hall Mark Stakes.

In an open race there are chances spread throughout the field and not to be forgotten is Kelso Wood’s game sprinter Belltone.

The local was solid when fifth first-up in the Prime Minister’s Cup and was on fire at last year’s winter carnival when scoring two Listed wins and a Group 2 QTC Cup runner-up.
