2013 Scone Cup Field – Beaten Up Scratched

After attracting a capacity field at acceptance stage the Scone Cup 2013 line-up is already down one runner following the almost immediate withdrawal of the Chris Waller-trained Beaten Up.

Fat Al

Epsom Handicap winner Fat Al carries the big 61kg topweight in the Scone Cup this Friday.

The headline race of the always popular Scone Cup Carnival this year’s edition of the lucrative $200,000 Listed Emirates Park Scone Cup (1600m), running as race 7 at 4:02pm on Friday, drew a capacity 16 starters plus four emergencies.

The first of those emergencies, the Greg Bennett-trained Kaypers, has gained a start however with Waller scratching his Rowley Mile runner-up Beaten Up in favour of the $500,000 Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) in Brisbane after they came up trumps with gate one for the Group 1.

Waller will still be represented in the 2013 Scone Cup however by two from his stables with Tattersall’s Mile winner Firebolt, German import Illo and Group 1 winning New Zealand mare Say No More drawn in gates 12, 17 and three respectively.

Scone Cup weights meanwhile are headed by Fat Al, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Epsom Handicap winner to carry a hefty 61kg from gate two with Nash Rawiller riding as they look to improve on their past three 12th place finishes.

There are three last start winners in this year’s Scone Cup after successive victories with the Tony McEvoy-trained Grand Slam stallion Mouro coming off a victory over Beaten Up in the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m), Wagga Wagga Gold Cup champ Scream Machine dropping back in distance here and Orange Gold Cup winner Jimmy Fortunes.

Other notable hopes then include the Peter Snowden-trained Raspberries, stakes winner Redoute’s Choice gelding Cantonese, Emancipation Stakes third placed Cathay Lady and Rowley Mile fourth placed Keith’s Legacy with a horror barrier 18 draw to overcome as they vie for their third win from four starts after back-to-back 1400m wins at Randwick in April.
