Missy Longstocking Included in 2013 Lancaster Stakes Nominations

Speedy filly Missy Longstocking will step out for the second time this campaign as one of the horses to beat in the Listed 2013 Lancaster Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.

The Liam Birchley-trained sprinter heads a group of 21 horses entered for the two-year-old fillies’ race.

Missy Longstocking returned with a fourth-place finish from a wide barrier in the Ken Russell Memorial Classic two weeks ago after excelling during her debut campaign.

The daughter of Sequalo won the first four starts of her career before finishing third behind Real Surreal and Sweet Idea in the Magic Millions Classic.

Among those entered to take on Missy Longstocking is Robert Heathcote’s Sebring filly She’s A Danica.

If she lines up the youngster will have to bounce back after a 13-length 11th in the Champagne Stakes on a tough slow 7 track.

But prior to the weekend She’s A Danica had shown plenty of promise with top-three finishes in the first three starts of her career.

The winter carnival always attracts plenty of southern raiders and well-regarded Sydney trainer Gerald Ryan has entered Mesmereyser and Minkeo this weekend.

Mineko won at Warwick Farm on May 1 while Mesmereyser was fourth in that same race.

Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan is beginning to build a team of strong young horses in addition to his stable stars and nominated for the Lancaster is Vienna Queen.

The daughter of Jet Spur was second on debut last October and has since returned with a win and third last month.

Others included in Lancaster Stakes nominations are Matt Dunn-trained filly Splendora and Patinack trio Sister Souss, Agerstown and Little Miss Smiley.
