Top Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman has picked up the ride on Your Song for Saturday week’s 2013 Doomben 10,000 where the colt will chase back-to-back Group 1 victories.
The Anthony Cummings-trained sprinter was ridden by Peter Robl in his huge BTC Cup win on Saturday but Robl is unavailable for the second leg of the Brisbane sprint treble due to suspension.
Bowman has ridden Your Song once before, piloting the son of Fastnet Rock to third-place honours on debut last June.
The experienced hoop got a good look at the potential star sprinter on Saturday when trailing him home by five lengths for a runner-up finish aboard Rain Affair.
Your Song shot to the top of Doomben 10,000 and Stradbroke Handicap betting with his BTC Cup performance and Cummings said he has pulled up well following the biggest win of his career.
“He’s pulled up well, licked the bin last night and will line up in a couple of week’s time and hopefully do the same thing again,” Cummings told TVN.
The 2013 Stradbroke Handicap has always been the major goal for the three-year-old and he is now a $4 favourite at bookmaker.com.au.
The weekend’s racing’s saw some big changes with a disappointing performance by Queensland sprinter Buffering seeing him drift from favouritism to the third line of betting at $8.
Another three-year-old to press his Stradbroke claims on Saturday was Better Than Ready who finished off well to claim third place in the BTC Cup.
The Kelly Schweida-trained galloper is a $10 Stradbroke chance.
The Stradbroke takes place at Eagle Farm on June 8 and with $1.36 million in prizemoney is the winter’s most lucrative race.
