Class Three-year-olds in 2013 Fred Best Classic Nominations

The exciting 2013 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival continues at Doomben on Saturday and one of the program highlights is set to be the Group 3 2013 Fred Best Classic (1350m).

Thirty three-year-olds have been entered for the $125,000 sprint including top Queensland colt Sizzling and Darley’s Academus.

Sizzling was a winter star as a two-year-old last year and is being aimed at the $1.36 million Stradbroke Handicap.

But Academus had his measure first-up, winning the Gold Coast Guineas as Sizzling finished in fourth place.

Second and third respectively in the Gold Coast Guineas were Al Aneed and Dances On Stars, both who have been nominated for this weekend’s three-year-old sprint.

Stepping up in class but showing promise early in their career is Patinack-trained filly Peron.

The daughter of Husson has won four of five starts and resume at the Gold Coast on May 4 with a one-length win in a benchmark 85 race.

Making the trip north to Queensland is Tony McEboy’s colt Jimando who won the Momentum Energy Handicap at Flemington on May 4.

The son of Commands was fourth in the Blue Diamond Stakes as a two-year-old and won the Listed Henry Bucks Stakes during the spring carnival.

One of the more interesting nominations is New Zealand filly Oasis Rose who resumed with a six-place finish at Te Rapa last month but showed particular promise last preparation.

In November she was a narrow second behind Doncaster Mile winner Sacred Falls in the Group 1 2000 Guineas.

Other key horses entered for the Fred Best Classic include Magic Millions Guineas winner Saluter, Darley’s Complicate and Chris Waller-trained gelding Boban.
