Your Song is the latest star three-year-old off to the breeding barn, with the BTC Cup winner to be retired after next month’s 2013 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m).
The Anthony Cummings-trained colt follows the likes of Pierro and All Too Hard out the door with still plenty left to offer in his career.
It was confirmed this morning on twitter by Widden Stud that the son of Fastnet Rock will begin his career as a stallion after his Brisbane winter campaign.
Your Song is definitely booked in for Saturday week’s 2013 Doomben 10,000 and provided he comes through that run unscathed the Stradbroke will be his swansong.
“Thrilled to announce stunning Gr.1 winner Your Song (Fastnet Rock) will stand at Widden Stud after racing completion,” the official Widden Stud twitter account said.
“All systems go for Your Song in his next start the Gr.1 Doomben 10,000 before possible tilt at the Gr.1 Stradbroke Hcp.”
On Saturday Your Song became the latest three-year-old to dominate an open weight-for-age feature when he thumped his older rivals by five lengths in the $400,000 BTC Cup.
The BTC Cup was just the seventh start of the exciting sprinter’s career and was his first black-type win.
Following Saturday’s victory Your Song quickly shot into favouritism for both the Doomben 10,000 and the Stradbroke.
The three-year-old trialled impressively in the lead-up to the BTC Cup and while the win caught some punters by surprise, it certainly was no shock to his trainer.
“The race was here and there’s not much point in blinking if you’ve got the right horse,” Cummings said after the race.
“Just looking at him in the yard, he’s a stand-out horse.”
