Hawkspur Takes Out Rough Habit Plate 2013 – Race Results

Hawkspur was too good for the rest in the field in today’s 2013 Rough Habit Plate at Eagle Farm Racecourse.

The three-year-old won the race in convincing fashion ahead of Survived, who placed second, and Usainity, who finished in third.

Survived was heavily favoured to win the 2013 Rough Habit Plate at bookmaker.com.au paying $2.10.

The favourite never settled and wanted to over race throughout the early stages of the 2013 Rough Habit Plate.

Hawkspur, on the other hand, was at his best in what was his first race start at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm racecourse.

The Purrealist gelding has now won four of his 16 starts and has earned more than $235,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.

Trainer Chris Waller’s foreperson Analese Trollope was at Eagle Farm to witness Hawkspur win the 2013 Rough Habit Plate.

“(We) wanted to ride him just a little bit further forward than he was last start,” Trollope said.

“He’s a very relaxed quiet horse.

“The older he gets the better he should go.

“He’s always thereabouts which is very nice.”

Hawkspur was ridden by jockey Jimmy Cassidy in the 2103 Rough Habit Plate.

“(He) got off the fence top of the straight and he really dashed good,” Cassidy said.

“He’s been on the improve, his run in the Frank Packer (sixth) wasn’t bad.

“He’s got the Chris Waller touch.”

Hawkspur will now go on towards the Group 1 Queensland Derby at Eagle Farm Racecourse on June 8, 2013.
