2013 BTC Cup – Betting Tips

The countdown to the opening Group 1 of the 2013 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival is nearly over with a hot field of sprinters to line up in the $400,000 2013 BTC Cup (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Eleven speedsters will contest the feature sprint and Queensland’s number one horse Buffering currently heads betting at $2.50.

The Robert Heathcote-trained galloper is chasing an elusive Group 1 but faces stiff competition from the likes of Rain Affair ($5) and Sea Siren ($5).

Other key chances out to knock off the favourite include Kelly Schweida-trained colt Better Than Ready ($6) and Anthony Cummings’ Your Song ($10).

Not quite sure who to back in this exciting Group 1 sprint? Having trouble lining up the form? Don’t worry as the Races.com.au team have done the hard work for you and are here to bring you our very best BTC Cup betting tips.

The Winner

#1 Buffering $2.50

He’s certainly short enough but it’s tough to tip against the favourite here. A seven-time Group 1 placegetter, this appears to be the Queenslander’s best chance to break his Group 1 duck. Is fit and firing for the second-up hit-out after blowing away his rivals by 3 1/2 lengths in the Victory Stakes. Tactics from other horses will determine where he gets in the run from barrier seven but his high cruising speed and toughness should allow him to overcome whatever scenario eventuates. At his preferred distance and home track, definitely the one to beat.

#2 Rain Affair $5

A slight query over the front-runner dropping back from 1400m to 1200m but looks the main danger to Buffering. Is coming off a second to All Too Hard in the All Aged Stakes which was preceded by a fourth to Black Caviar in the TJ Smith. Likely to jump and lead from barrier two and Buffering will have to be at his best to run him down.

#7 Better Than Ready $6

The three-year-old isn’t perfectly suited at weight-for-age but expect a big performance on his way to the Stradbroke. Likely to get back in the field and will benefit from strong speed up front combined with a big Eagle Farm straight. Will be running on.
