Buffering Draws 7 – 2013 BTC Cup Final Field and Barrier Draw

2013 BTC Cup favourite Buffering has drawn barrier seven in an 11-horse field for the first Group 1 of the 2013 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Queensland’s number one galloper is a seven-time minor placegetter in the top grade and has never been better placed to join the Group 1 club.

The five-year-old got his winter campaign off to a flyer last month when thumping his rivals to the tune of 3 1/2 lengths in the Victory Stakes.

The major threats to the Robert Heathcote-trained sprinter come from southern raiders Sea Siren and Rain Affair.

The two Sydney speedsters will get an early look at each other with Rain Affair receiving barrier two and Sea Siren one outside him in three.

Rain Affair heads into the race on the back of an All Aged Stakes second and trainer Joe Pride is confident he can get the Group 1 monkey off his back this weekend.

“I’m very happy with the horse, he is going as well as ever,” Pride said.

Sea Siren is defending her title in the Queensland feature sprint but will have to turn around her early autumn form.

The Fastnet Rock mare has struggled since a failed Hong Kong trip in December. In two autumn starts she finished eighth in the Galaxy and fifth in the TJ Smith.

Stepping up to take on the older horses is Kelly Schweida’s colt Better Than Ready who was fifth in the Newmarket Handicap in March.

The three-year-old returned in scintillating style with a 1 1/2 length win in the Listed Mick Dittman Plate on April 20.

Another three-year-old in the field is Anthony Cummings-trained colt Your Song who hasn’t been seen since running third in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes in october.

Others in the BTC Cup field include Tony Gollan’s Group 1 regulars Spirit Of Boom and Temple Of Boom, Darley’s Rarefied and Patinack-owned colt Relfectance.

The BTC Cup market will be open shortly and great odds will be found at bookmaker.com.au!
