Premier Victorian trainer Peter Moody will vie for back-to-back wins in The Goodwood 2013 this weekend with his top chance Moment Of Change now paying over $2 in the markets for the Morphettville feature.
At some bookies the Barley A Moment four-year-old, winner of the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) last spring, is at an odds-on price to become a dual elite level champ in Saturday’s $500,000 Group 1 The Distinctive Homes Goodwood (1200m).
However in the newly released The Goodwood Odds at bookmaker.com.au the gelding is paying $2.10.
After two big Group 1 seconds earlier in the autumn behind last year’s The Goodwood winner Black Caviar in the Lightning Stakes and Shamexpress in the Newmarket Handicap, Moment Of Change came unstuck last start when dead last behind Pierro in the Canterbury Stakes on March 23.
Their trainer is willing to forgive that run and so too are the bookies who are spruiking Moment Of Change to follow in the footsteps of their since retired stablemate Black Caviar and win The Goodwood.
Moody will also be represented in The Goodwood field by Justify That out wide in barrier 16 who is a $151 roughie at the complete opposite end of the markets.
Two other runners are join Moment Of Change under double figures with:
- #17 Yosei ($8) – Triple Group 1 winning mare hasn’t won a race in two years but continues to show up in Group 1 trifectas around the place, her last run was a cracker when third in the Robert Sangster Stakes here and she’ll appreciate going down in the weights for this and meeting Moment Of Change a full six kilos better
- #7 Facile Tigre ($8.50) – Sunshine Coast-based sprinter comes over here off a 77 day break and have a nice record when fresh including their first-up second in the Oakleigh Plate in February, also looks well weighted four kilos under Moment Of Change’s 58.5kg topweight
Other notable chances at longer prices capable of scoring an upset The Goodwood result this year then include Robert Sangster Stakes winner Platelet ($12) who must step up to the set weights plus penalties conditions, Victorian six-year-old Amaethon ($15), the Peter Snowden-trained Altar ($17) and Ricky Maund’s last start Group 3 DC McKay Stakes winner General Truce ($18).
