Sydney trainer Anthony Cummings has confirmed three-year-old sprinter Your Song will be among the runners when the final field is announced for the Group 1 2013 BTC Cup (1200m) on Wednesday.
The Fastnet Rock colt hasn’t been seen since October when he finished third in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick.
Your Song has had just six career starts but Cummings has no qualms about throwing him into Group 1 weight-for-age company against some of the nation’s best sprinters.
“He is right to go … has been for a while now,” Cummings told AAP.
Cummings considered racing him in the Gold Coast Guineas last Saturday but is confident he can match it in the higher profile event this weekend.
The emerging galloper has had three barrier trials throughout April and May in order to prepare for the first-up test.
It is believed there will be at least 13 horses in the field when final acceptances are announced on Wednesday morning.
The big three heading the field are Queensland’s number one galloper Buffering, Sydney front-runner Rain Affair and triple Group 1 winner Sea Siren.
Also confirmed are boom three-year-old Better Than Ready and Tony Gollan-trained pair Spirit Of Boom and Temple Of Boom.
Spirit Of Boom trailed Buffering home for second in the Victory Stakes and was a Group 1 third in the Oakleigh Plate in February.
Patinack will have a dual-pronged assault with Metallurgical and Reflectance.
John O’Shea’s mare Sea Siren is the defending champion and pleased her trainer in a last piece of serious work at Randwick this morning.
“She’ll float up to Brisbane on Thursday night now and everything is exactly where we want it,” O’Shea said.
