After a good first-up third in Adelaide, Stuart Webb’s triple Group 1 winner Yosei will race at Morphettville again in this Saturday’s The Goodwood 2013 before heading to Brisbane where her campaign will end with the $500,000 Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 22 – a race she won two years ago.
The now five-year-old Invincible Sprit mare scored her third Group 1 trophy in the 2011 Tattersall’s Tiara, which incredibly was also the last time the hit-and-miss miler won a race.
A winner of over $1.2 million in stakes, Yosei resumed this time in on April 27 in Adelaide and finished a competitive third when defeated under a length and a half by Platelet in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m).
She gets the chance to improve on that run when she faces the Darren Weir-trained Platelet again this weekend in the $500,000 Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) with connections opting to run her in that over the $400,000 Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) in Brisbane for which she was also nominated.
“She’ll take good improvement out of her first-up run and will run in the Goodwood,” Webb confirmed this week.
“She’s only got 52.5kg, which is very appealing.”
That weight is a full four kilos less than what she had on her back for her slashing Robert Sangster Stakes third.
Following The Goodwood 2013 Yosei will then head to Queensland for the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival where she is nominated for a number of features including the $650,000 Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) on May 25.
“After that she goes to Queensland where she will run in the Doomben 10,000, Stradbroke and the Tatt’s Tiara,” Webb said.
The $1.36 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) is Queensland’s richest race and runs on June 8 with Yosei currently rated a $41 chance for through bookmaker.com.au.
