McEvoy Dominates 2013 National Stakes Nominations

Local trainer Tony McEvoy appears to have a stranglehold over the two-year-olds’ feature in Adelaide this weekend nominating for three of his youngsters in the National Stakes 2013.

Formerly known as The Jansz, this year’s $115,000 Group 3 National Stakes (1200m) is one of four Group races running at Morphettville Racecourse for The Goodwood Day.

There were 12 nominations taken for this year’s race, three of which come from the Angaston stables of McEvoy including Iconic.

The nicely-bred Bel Esprit gelding having won back-to-back races in Bendigo earlier this year before their fifth to Safeguard in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on April 13 which they will be out to improve on.

Iconic could then be joined in the National Stakes field by stablemates Bring A Ring who won the Listed Sportingbet Classic (105m) before two third place finishes firstly to Excites Zelady in the Group 3 Breeders Stakes (1200m) and then to Calcatta in the Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1100m), and Exceed And Excel filly My Little Friend who was fourth in the Dequetteville.

Also with multiple entries is Lloyd Kennewell with Ziggler who won on debut at Morphettville Parks last month and Vivi Veloce.

Other notable hopes then include the Mark Kavanagh-trained Fastnet Rock filly Ocean Fleet, Richard Jolly’s Typhoon and Peter Moody’s Victorian raider Made Of Ice coming off their winning debut at Ballarat on April 21 where they carried 58kg going down to 56kg on Saturday.

The full Morphettville race fields and barrier draws for this weekend will be released tomorrow.
