2013 SA Fillies Classic Nominations – The Goodwood Day

A talented line-up of three-year-old fillies has been nominated for Saturday’s SA Fillies Classic 2013, a nice consolation prize for those that weren’t able to take out the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks last month.

One of four Group races on the Morphettville card for this weekend’s The Goodwood Day, the $115,000 Group 3 SA Fillies Classic (2500m) attracted 13 nominations.

While first two over the line in the Schweppes Oaks won’t be backing up in this, the Michael Moroney-trained third placegetter La Zuma will be.

The nicely-bred Zabeel filly from Victoria hasn’t won a race since her debut at Ballarat back in September last year but caught the eye last time out crossing a good third from a wide gate in the Schweppes Oaks over 2000m.

She was outclassed over the 2500m last spring in Melbourne when 11th, beaten 23 lengths, to Dear Demi in the Group 1 Crown Oaks at Flemington but against this class on Saturday should be in a better position to handle the distance.

Also in the mix are Darren Weir’s in-form Ballarat based Happy Highway coming off back-to-back wins, the Nigel Blackiston-trained Let’s Make Adeal and Crown Oaks third placegetter Summerbliss who can be forgiven for her two failed Group 1 runs in Sydney when rain-affected tracks ruined her chances in the Vinery Stud Stakes and Australian Oaks.

The 2013 SA Fillies Classic field and barriers are due for release on Wednesday.
