2013 Doomben 10,000 Still on Cards for Hot Snitzel

They may have failed as the well beaten second pick in the weekend’s Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1300m) at the Gold Coast but Sydney sprinter Hot Snitzel is still on track for the Doomben 10,000 2013 according to their trainer Gerald Ryan.

The talented Snitzel four-year-old, a triple Group winner, started at prohibitive odds in the Prime Minister’s Cup on Saturday after their blistering last start victory in the Group 3 Sebring Stakes (1200m) back in Sydney.

But their barrier 10 (of 16) draw, and the 59.5kgs proved too much and the gelding failed to fire in their Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival lead-up finishing four and a half lengths away 13th (of 16) behind Famous Seamus in the PM Cup.

Ryan isn’t giving up hope however searching for answers behind their poor run and keen to forgive them that effort as they continue towards the $650,000 Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) at Doomben Racecourse on Saturday May 25.

After no problems were found in their post-race blood tests Ryan said it was onwards and upwards with Hot Snitzel who will next race in the $125,000 Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m) at Doomben on May 18 which will hopeful lead onto the Doomben 10,000.

“We had him scoped last night and there was nothing there,” Ryan said on Sunday.

“He cleaned his feed up. He seems just fine.

“It was like he just turned it up.

“I think we need to forget that race and move on.”

Hot Snitzel was very competitive in Queensland during their juvenile season back in 2011 when they won the Listed Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) on Hollindale Day by 6.5 lengths before traveling to Brisbane for a successful raid on the two-year-old features.

They ran third in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m), took out the Group 2 Sires’ Produce (1400m) by three lengths and then ran second to Benfica in the Group 1 TJ Smith (1600m) – Ryan hoping they can back to that form this winter having missed the carnival last year recovering from throat surgery.
