Lights Of Heaven Wins 2013 Hollindale Stakes – Gold Coast Results

Peter Moody’s talented staying mare Lights Of Heaven has picked up where she left off last winter in Queensland to claim the Group 2 2013 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast today.

The five-year-old justified her favouritism to avenge a runner-up result from 2012, getting the final say in a tight finish from Foreteller and Transporter.

Despite jumping from a wide barrier, jockey Luke Nolen was able to get Lights Of Heaven across and in an ideal position just behind the leaders.

As expected it was anyone’s race rounding the home turn but the Caulfield Cup placegetter showed her class and will now be tough to beat in all the winter’s big staying races.

The next assignment for the Zabeel mare will be the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) in two weeks, a race she finished second in last year.

It is then likely she will defend her titles in both the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup and the Group 2 Brisbane Cup.

Lights Of Heaven will start among the favourites in the Doomben Cup but whether she is the top elect could be determined by whether or not boom colt All Too Hard heads to Brisbane.

It was previously thought the star half-brother to Black Caviar had finished his Australian racing career but co-trainer Wayne Hawkes hinted on TVN this morning that either the Doomben Cup or Scone Guineas are possibilities.

Hawkes said the triple Group 1 winner requires a trial or another race before heading to Royal Ascot for the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes on June 18.
