Le Val Wins 2013 Ken Russell Memorial Classic – Gold Coast Results

Local gelding Le Val overcame a big price to salute in the Listed 2013 Ken Russell Memorial Classic at his home track at the Gold Coast today.

The Noel Doyle-trained galloper jumped an $18.80 chance against some already proven juveniles but showed tremendous fight in the home straight to defeat Londehero and Sydney traveller Diamond Oasis.

At one stage the son of Snitzel looked to be struggling but rallied late with Rick McMahon aboard.

It was just the second start of Le Val’s career, having finished runner-up behind Patinack’s exciting youngster Hooked on debut last month.

The talented gelding is likely to be aimed down the traditional Queensland winter path that includes the Group 2 2013 Champagne Classic, the Group 2 2013 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) and the Group 1 2013 JJ Atkins (1600m).

The Ken Russell is a proven lead-up race to the big winter two-year-old races as shown by Sizzling last year who went undefeated in a four-start campaign that began with the Gold Coast feature.

Le Val was one of 85 horses entered on Wednesday for the JJ Atkins (formerly the TJ Smith) which takes place as the premier two-year-old race of the winter carnival at Eagle Farm on June 8.

Magic Millions third placegetter Missy Longstocking was strong in the finish to claim fourth after jumping from a wide barrier.

Be sure to follow the form out of this race as many of these will be going on to bigger races at the winter carnival. Once you’ve decided on your winning picks make the most of the your betting at bookmaker.com.au who are fully Australian-owned and have a $500 bonust bet for new customers which can be split up to four ways!
