Detours Wins Thrilling 2013 Silk Stocking

Darley-owned mare Detours produced a big run down the outside to claim the Listed 2013 Silk Stocking (1200m) at the Gold Coast today.

As expected, Peter Moody-trained sprinter Karuta Queen took the early lead and that is where she stayed for the majority of the race.

At the 100m Karuta Queen appeared to have the race in her grasp before Detours produced an electrifying finish to nab the front-runner in the dying stages.

It was the first win since September for the daughter of Ad Valorem who now has two black-type victories and five total career wins from 15 starts.

Local gelding Punch On overcame huge odds to produce a big run for third.

Fillies and mares races at the Brisbane winter carnival await all those who impressed in the Silk Stocking.

Earlier in the day Express Power pressed her claims for the Group 1 2013 Queensland Oaks with a convincing win in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m).

The Kris Lees-trained filly has been in good form in Sydney and arrived in Queensland on the back of a runner-up finish behind Australian Oaks winner Royal Descent in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes.

On Wednesday 69 nominations were taken for the Queensland Oaks which included Group 1 regulars Dear Demi and Longport.

The action is heating up in Queensland and bookmaker.com.au have outstanding odds on all the exciting action in the sunshine state.

Right now is the time to join the Australian-owned bookie as they are currently offering a massive $500 bonus bet offer to new customers who join quoting the code BONUSBET!
