2013 Hollindale Stakes – Betting Update

A bumper program at the Gold Coast today for 2013 Prime Minister’s Cup Day and without a doubt the highlight is the Group 2 2013 Hollindale Stakes (1800m).

Boasting a field could be worthy of Group 1 status, the race is a key lead-up to a number of the winter’s major staying races including the Group 1 Doomben Cup.

Stout Hearted and Voila Ici have been scratched and that along with some money for certain runners have seen some changes in the market.

Favourite at $2.90 but facing a tricky barrer 11 position is Peter Moody’s quality staying mare Lights Of Heaven who returns to Queensland after an outstanding campaign last year.

The last-start winner was second in this race last year before going on to win both the Eagle Farm and Brisbane Cups.

Following closely in the Hollindale Stakes market is Foreteller ($4) who showed his class at the Sydney carnival when winning the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes.

Also towards the top of the market is Queensland gelding Solzhenitsyn ($4.60) who was a Group 1 winner in the spring but heads into unknown territory at 1800m.

Earlier this preparation the big gelding ran third to Pierro and More Joyous in the Canterbury Stakes, a reason jockey Damian Browne is confident.

“There’s no Pierro or More Joyous in this race and his form would stack up against anything else in the race,” Browne said.

“This looks a nice race for him.”

At $8 is David Vandyke-trained gelding Lamasery who has had his fair share of health problems but beat Lights Of Heaven at Group 2 level in the spring and is four from four over 1800m.

Other key Hollindale Stakes chances include veteran Group 1 winner Danleigh ($11) and John O’Shea’s emerging galloper Lightinthenite ($12).
