Peter Moody’s former Group 1 winning mare Lights Of Heaven will jump favourite in the $358,000 Group 2 A.D. Hollindale Stakes (1800m) on the Gold Coast this Saturday as she gears up for a title defense in the Brisbane Cup 2013 next month.

Winner of the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks in Adelaide as a three-year-old, the now five-year-old Zabeel mare has been a consistent force in Moody’s stable including her big third to Duanden in last year’s Caulfield Caup.

This time in a dead last in the Futurity first-up was improved on when she was second to Spirit Song in the Sunline Stakes before bouncing back into the winners’ stall on April 6 putting an easy one and three quarter lengths on Hoylonny to win the Group 3 Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m).

“It was a good win,” Moody said.

“She needed to beat them convincingly and she certainly did that. It was a good, solid performance.”

On the weekend she heads to Queensland to kick off her Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival campaign in the 2013 Hollindale Stakes, Lights Of Heaven the current $3 favourite at to beat home the likes of Ranvet Stakes winner Foreteller ($3.80) and Doomben Cup hopeful Solzhenitsyn ($4.40).

Lights Of Heaven contested the Hollindale 12 months ago and ran a brave second when defeated a mere nose by Shez Sinsational in a muddy edition of the classic.

From there she ran another close second this time to Mawingo in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) before heading to Eagle Farm to secure the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) and Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) at her two next starts by three lengths a piece.

It is a similar campaign Moody has mapped out for the $1.3 million earner this winter and he is confident she is ready to go.

“She’s been up there before so there are no fears there for her,” Moody said.

“She’s travelled up there well and I can’t fault her.”
