2013 Ken Russell Memorial Classic Tips

A huge day of racing at the Gold Coast on Saturday for Prime Minister’s Cup Day and one of the key events on the program is the Listed 2013 Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m).

A full 16-horse field of two-year-olds will line up in the only juvenile race of the day and heading the market is Magic Millions third placegetter Missy Longstocking ($4).

But the talented Liam Birchley-trained galloper will have to overcome a wide barrier 17 draw and will face stiff competition from the likes of Sydney youngsters Diamond Oasis ($5) and Florid Affair ($5.50).

Others towards the top of the market include Sir Moments ($5.50) who was second on debut in December and Matt Dunn’s consistent gelding Londehero ($7.50).

Struggling to line up this field of youngsters? Need a little help? Then don’t worry, the Races.com.au team have been hard at work studying the form and replays to bring our very best Ken Russell Memorial Classic tips.

The Winner

#7 Skytastic $26

At the price we are happy to have a go at what looks a really promising colt from the stable of Gillian Heinrich on the Gold Coast.

The son of Choisir debuted with a one-length win over 1200m at this track on April 20 in what was a really impressive performance.

Was 5-6 lengths off the lead at the 200m after having to do plenty of work to get in the clear but once he got there he quickly gobbled them up.

A big rise in class but if he can bring that sort of performance again an each way ticket could be worthwhile.

Second

#2 Sir Moments $5.50

A bit of buzz about this horse in Queensland after a strong second on debut in the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes in December.

Hasn’t raced since then but tuned up with a trial a couple of weeks ago and looks right it in amongst it here.

Third

#11 Missy Longstocking $4

If it wasn’t for the horror outside barrier draw Missy Longstocking would be our number one pick here. A really talented filly who is four from five and was last seen running third in the Magic Millions.

Brings a run like her Magic Millions performance and she shouldn’t miss out on a podium finish.

It doesn’t matter who you like on the Gold Coast this weekend, outstanding odds will be found at bookmaker.com.au!
