Markets for the big one in Queensland this Saturday have been released with Peter Moody’s flying mare Lights Of Heaven opening top of the 2013 A.D. Hollindale Stakes odds.
Set to run as the Gold Coast Race 8 at 3:50pm (AEST) this year’s $358,000 Group 2 Wimmers Soft Drinks A.D. Hollindale Stakes (1800m) features a final field of 13 stayers, the best fancied of which is Moody’s former Group 1 winner Schweppes Oaks winner Lights Of Heaven.
The now five-year-old daughter of Zabeel raced in Queensland last winter carnival and enjoyed great success starting with her narrow second when beaten by the bob of the head by Shez Sinsational in the Hollindale Stakes.
From there she went on to finish another close second this time to Mawingo in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) before taking out the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup – Brisbane Cup double by a collective six lengths at Eagle Farm – form the bookies are tipping her to repeat this season.
Paying $3 in the current AD Hollindale Stakes odds Lights Of Heaven certainly looks on track to replicate her scintillating winter form as she comes off a good last start win in the Group 3 Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill carrying 58kg.
Sydney trainer Chris Waller is also expected to continue his good form with his Ravent Stakes winner Foreteller opening second pick for the Hollindale.
Opening at a price of $3.20 the imported Dansili six-year-old has won three Group races in Australia most notably beating home subsequent The BMW winner Fiveandahalfstar in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) in March.
Twelve months ago Foreteller travelled to the sunshine state and was fourth in the Hollindale which was run on a Heavy (8) track before going to Brisbane where they ran a disappointing ninth in the Doomben Cup.
Last seen running fifth when beaten one and a half lengths in the Group 1 The BMW (2400m), Foreteller is expected to bounce back to their Ranvet Stakes winning form as they get a likely firmer track at the Gold Coast.
There is only one other runner under double figures in the AD Hollindale Stakes betting markets with Solzhenitsyn paying $4.40 to take it out for the Queenslanders.
The Rob Heathcote-trained St Petersburg gelding, winner of the Group 1 Toorak Handicap over the Caulfield mile last October, boasts an awesome record in Brisbane but is yet to race at the glitter strip.
They have had two runs for two very different results this time in.
Their first-up effort was an excellent third behind then superstar stablemates Pierro and More Joyous in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) before the Slow track they encountered last start in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) saw them finish dead last behind Pierro.
They can be forgiven that run however with the unsuitable wet track to blame, rain-affected ground also to blame for their scratching from the Doncaster Mile late last month.
Other notable hopes in the Hollindale this weekend with genuine claims then include Chris Waller’s veteran nine-year-old Danleigh ($11), the David Vandyke-trained Lamasery ($11) who is a specialist at the distance, early market mover Stout Hearted ($12) also representing Waller and John O’Shea’s Galileo gelding Lightinthenite ($14).
