Dear Demi Heading to 2013 Queensland Oaks

Clarry Conners-trained filly Dear Demi will add some serious star power to the Group 1 2013 Queensland Oaks (2400m) which will take place at Eagle Farm on June 1.

The three-year-old will trial in Sydney on Friday week before embarking on a Queensland campaign that will begin in the Group 3 2013 The Roses (2000m) on May 18.

Dear Demi will chase a second Group 1 title in the Oaks after taking out the Crown Oaks at the 2012 spring carnival.

The Crown Oaks win came as the seventh start in a long spring campaign and she will follow a similar path to the Queensland Oaks.

The daughter of Dehere has already had five starts this preparation at the Sydney autumn carnival, winning the Group 2 Surround Stakes and finishing second in the Group 1 Australian Oaks.

From 20 starts the three-year-old has won five times and recorded eight minor placings for more than $1.35 million in prizemoney.

Dear Demi was one of 69 horses yesterday included in Queensland Oaks nominations.

Also entered on the back of a long Sydney carnival campaign is Patinack-owned filly Longport who was second in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes behind classy filly Norzita.

Longport was fifth in the Australian Oaks at her last start while fellow Queensland Oaks entrant Gondokoro was third.

Another Queensland Oaks nominee with decent results behind her is La Zuma who finished third in the Schweppes Oaks.

Fourth in the Schweppes Oaks was Anthony Freedman’s filly Kazanluk who will have another Queensland carnival lead-up this weekend in the Adelaide Guineas.
