Missy Longstocking Returns in 2013 Ken Russell Memorial Classic Field

One of Queensland’s most talented fillies returns this Saturday in the Listed $100,000 2013 Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast.

The Liam Birchley-trained galloper hasn’t been seen since the Magic Millions Classic in January where she finished third behind Real Surreal and Sweet Idea.

Prior the Magic Millions she wont the first four starts of her career including defeating Sweet Idea in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes.

Sweet Idea has franked the Magic Millions form by winning the Silver Slipper and finishing third in the Golden Slipper.

A full field of 16 horses will contest the Ken Russell which is often used as a lead-up to the biggest two-year-old races at the 2013 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

Stepping up to Listed level for the first time is Grafton-based gelding Single Chance who won the first three starts of his career at provincial tracks before finishing second to Octane Flyer at Eagle Farm on April 20.

Local trainer Gillian Heinrich has entered three of her charges including Skytastic who was a debut winner by a length at the Gold Coast on April 20.

The Gold Coast can often be a tricky track for newcomers so local experience is certainly advantageous.

Stepping out for Matt Dunn is Londehero who resume with a fourth-place finish after placing in the first two starts of his career in December.

Also in good form is Tony Gollan-trained filly Vienna Queen who won first-up at at Doomben before running third behind Octane Flyer and Single Chance.

Others in the field include Sydney youngster Diamond Oasis and last-start runner-up Le Val.
