The Ken Russell is an important lead-up to the big winter juvenile races which was proven last year as winner Sizzling went on to claim the Group 1 TJ Smith (now JJ Atkins).

Missy Longstocking is one of 19 horses nominated for the $100,000 race and if she lines up it will be first start since running third in the Magic Millions Classic in January.

In the Magic Millions she finished third behind fellow local Real Surreal and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Sweet Idea. Real Surreal hasn’t been seen since that win but the form has held up as Sweet Idea went on to win the Silver Slipper and finish third in the Golden Slipper.

Prior to the Magic Millions Missy Longstocking won the first four starts of her career including the Group 3 BG McLachlan Stakes ahead of Sweet Idea.

Also coming out of the Magic Millions is Architect who was eighth in the lucrative Gold Coast feature. The Bel Esprit gelding hasn’t raced since January 26 when he won by 1 2/2 lengths in a 2YO handicap at the Sunshine Coast.

Lightly raced but in strong form is Tony Gollan-trained filly Vienna Queen who won at Doomben on April 6 and hasn’t finished worse than third from three starts.

Travelling north from Sydney is Gai Waterhouse-trained filly who broke her maiden status at Warwick Farm in early April before running ninth in the Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Others nominated for the Ken Russell Memorial Classic include Matt Dunn’s Londehero, Listed runner-up Sir Moments and the Patinack-owned Little Miss Smiley.
