2013 Warrnambool Cup Final Field and Barrier Draw

A capacity field will line up in the Listed $200,000 2013 Warrnambool Cup (2350m) in what is the major highlight of Warrnambool’s bumper three-day carnival.

Sixteen horses plus three emergencies have been named for the well-regarded staying event and Mick Kent’s import Tac De Boistron has the topweight of 60kg.

The six-year-old import hasn’t been seen since last year’s Melbourne Cup when he beat just one horse home in what was just his second Australian start.

The former French galloper is considered to be a wet-track specialist so will appreciate any late autumn rain.

Also stepping out for Kent is five-year-old gelding Domesky who was second in the race last year.

In outstanding form is Tasmanian gelding Banca Mo who will be out to continue his terrific form this weekend.

The five-year-old will chase a third straight win after taking out the Pakenham Cup and an open handicap at Flemington.

Also heading into the race in form is Finiguerra who won first-up at Moonee Valley before running third at Flemington on April 20.

Local trainer Darren Weir has a strong presence throughout the Warrnambool carnival and has one runner with Shiny Buttons in the main event.

Shiny Buttons hasn’t won since last July but showed promise last start when third in the RSL Plate at Flemington.

Fellow local trainer Aaron Purcell is well represented, accepting with both Streaky Fella and Val Mondo.

Streaky Fella was fifth in last year’s Cup but will have to bounce back from a last-start seventh while Val Mondo is coming off a runner-up finish at Oakbank.

Others in the Warranmbool Cup field include Tony Vasil’s Lucky Angel and 2012 Galleywood Hurdle winner Black And Bent.
