Open 2013 Australasian Oaks – Betting Odds and Tips

Group 1 racing heads to Adelaide this weekend and one of the biggest races on the Morphetville card is the 2013 Australasian Oaks (2000m).

If the market is to believed the race otherwise known as the Schweppes Oaks is set to be an open affair, with local filly Molto Bene the current top elect at $4.80.

Following closely is fellow local Maybe Discreet ($5.50) while David Hayes’ last-start winner Global Balance shares the next line of betting at $8.50 with Blanket Bay and Aurora Lights.

A capacity field of emerging gallopers makes for a bunched market. At $9.50 is the second of Hayes’ chances, Alzora.

Others chasing Oaks success include Swinging Soldier ($13), Proper Madam ($17), First Bloom ($17) and the Murray Baker-trained Her To Eternity.

Not familiar with a number of these horses? Struggling to find a winner? Then keep reading for the very best Australasian Oaks tips from the experts.

The Winner

#6 Blanket Bay $8.50

  • New Zealand filly having her first start in Australia
  • Coming off a second-place finish in the New Zealand Oaks, running the trip is no problem
  • Has won twice and placed on another two from seven career starts
  • Should be able to lob into a good spot from the inside barrier draw

#2 Maybe Discreet $5.50

  • Local filly who knows the Morphetville track back to front
  • A winner of three of seven starts including the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes at the Melbourne spring carnival
  • Has improved with each run this time in and produced near best when second in Group 3 Schwepperevescence over 1800m last start
  • Has local jockey Dom Tourneur aboard. A truly “horses for courses” proposition.

#8 Transonic $8

  • Yet to finish better than fifth this preparation but was running on strongly in the Schweppervescence
  • Generally takes a few runs to show her best and is fourth-up here
  • Placed twice at the distance at the spring carnival including a third in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes
  • Drawn to get a good run from barrier five
