2013 Queen Of The South Stakes Field Dominated by Victorians

It may be a Group 2 race in South Australia but there is a distinct Victorian presence about the 2013 Queen Of the South Stakes (1600m).

Due to jump as race 7 on the Morphetville program this Saturday, the 12-horse field contains 10 Victorian-trained runners.

Heading the field is Pat Hyland’s in-form mare Bonaria who has won two of her past three starts.

Bonaria is coming off a two-length win in an open handicap at Flemington but showed her ability at Group level in March when taking out the Group 3 Schweppervescence Trophy.

Also proven in stakes company is Star Of Giselle who won the Group 3 Tesio Stakes at the spring carnival and also took out the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes in February.

The pair will get an early look at eacher other with Bonaria drawing barrier five and Star Of Giselle one spot inside with four.

Star Of Giselle’s stablemate Secret Liaison will also make the trip to Adelaide but she will have to bounce back from a last-start ninth at Moonee Valley.

Peter Moody is never afraid to travel his horses and he has accepted with consistent galloper Storm Burst while Darren Weir has the in-form Lake Sententia.

Lake Sententia was narrow second at her last start at Flemington and in the spring was a runner-up in the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes.

The best of the local hopes appears to be David Jolly-trained mare Danish Spy who is the only last-start winner in the field but faces a steep rise in class from a dominant display at Strathalbyn.
