Adelaide trainer Paul Beshara is putting a big, fat line through Happy Trails’ 10th-place finish in the Doncaster Mile and is tipping him to bounce back at Randwick this Saturday in the Group 1 2013 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m).
Besahara is happy to forgive and forget his stable star who he believes simply didn’t handle the heavy 10 track.
“Glyn Shocfield said he travelled well until he put some pressure on but his wheels started spinning and he didn’t go anywhere,” Beshara told Racing Network.
Beshara said the five-year-old has pulled up well and is a near certainty to line up alongside crack Kiwi colt It’s A Dundeel in the Queen Elizabeth.
With fine weather predicted in Sydney all week, a dead or good track is the expected equation for the final day of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
But even with desired conditions, Happy Trails is going to have to show a serious form turn around in order to challenge this weekend.
His trainer is confident but the Good Journey gelding has thus far failed to replicate the form that made him a Group 1 winner during the spring.
Happy Trails has been taking on strong fields but reeled off consecutive ninths in the Canterbury Stakes and George Ryder Stakes, his only two starts before the Doncaster.
That is in stark comparison to his spring results where he won the Group 1 Emirates Stakes and also took out the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes.
Making his task even more challenging this weekend is the presence of It’s A Dundeel who has been in phenomenal form throughout the autumn.
Murray Baker’s boom colt is set to start an odds-on favourite after his thrilling six-length win in the Australian Derby last Saturday week.
