Strong Nominations for 2013 Victory Stakes

A strong nominations list for the Group 2 2013 Victory Stakes (1200m) at Doomben this Saturday makes it clear that the 2013 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival is just around the corner.

Heading the group of 11 horses entered for the $175,000 sprint is Queensland’s number one speedster Buffering.

A regular in many of the nation’s top sprints, Buffering will be kicking off his campaign after a minor hoof issue ruled him out of the TJ Smith against Black Caviar.

Buffering won the 2011 Victory Stakes and looked a “good thing” last year before rain washed out the race.

Trainer Robert Heathcote is confident about the condition of his stable star ahead of his campaign on home soil.

“This is the best he’s ever looked going into a preparation and in hindsight I may well have been fortunate not taking him to Sydney,” Heathcote said.

Joining the tough galloper in nominations is Tony Gollan’s sprint trio Spirit Of Boom, Temple Of Boom and Listen Son.

Spirit Of Boom is set to return from a brief break following a three-start Melbourne campaign where the highlight was a third in the Oakleigh Plate.

Temple Of Boom was a Group 1 winner in last year’s Galaxy but could only manage fifth this year while Listen Son hasn’t been seen since a failed attempt at hte Keith Noud Quality in November.

Peter Moody always takes a strong contingent to Brisbane and he starts this weekend with Ready To Rip entered for the Victory.

The former Queensland sprinter is coming off a last-start win in the Thoroughbred Club Cup at Caulfield last month.

Others nominated for the Victory Stakes include Darley-owned pair Skytrain and Rarefied, Patinack’s Reflectance and consistent Queenslander Startsmeup.

When markets open on the Doomben action later this week ensure you are getting top odds by betting at who are fully Australian owned and operated.
