Sacred Falls Wins 2013 Doncaster Mile – Race Results

The $2 million Doncaster Mile has been won by Sacred Falls at Royal Randwick Racecourse today April 20, 2013.

The three-year-old came back from a second placing behind It’s A Dundeel in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas last start to win the Doncaster in spectacular style.

Sacred Falls won the 2013 Doncaster Mile by a length in front of a gallant Pierro, who placed second with his big weight, and Norzita, who placed in third.

The O’Reillycolt was paying big odds of $21 to win the 2013 Doncaster Handicap at

It was the third feature win for Chris Waller at Randwick today, who had just claimed the Group 1 Australian Oaks with Royal Descent in the previous race.

“It’s racing at its finest,” Waller said.

“You can’t describe it, you can’t prepare for it.”

Waller admitted the wet ground had put some serious doubt into his mind over his horse’s chances at today’s meet.

“If it was left up to me we’d hardly have any runners today,” he admitted.

The trainer said Sacred Falls had had an unlucky start to the autumn carnival.

“Nothing went right early preparation,” Waller said.

“We scratched him second-up because of a wet track.

“(And then he was) third up in a tough 2,000 metres behind It’s A Dundeel.”

Jockey Tommy Berry was jubilant after Sacred Falls’ winning Doncaster Mile run.

“(Waller) said that this horse was fit and ready to win and we did that,” Berry said.

“He got chopped out at the start so I was a little bit further back than I wanted to be.

“But I felt the winner at the home turn.”

Berry will now travel overseas to take part in a stint of riding in Hong Kong.

“It seems a little bit sad going to Hong Kong now,” he said.

“But it’s only two and a half months, I’ll be back.”
