Doncaster Mile Day 2013 is at risk of being postponed due to the state of the track at Royal Randwick.
The nine race meeting is one of the most anticipated of the autumn racing carnival, with the $550,000 Australian Oaks and the $2 million Doncaster Mile both taking place.
However, the track is currently rated as a Heavy 9 and is expected to be downgraded to a Heavy 10 throughout the day.
With the course severely rain-affected, the biggest concern actually comes from the expected limited visibility caused by continuing rain in Sydney today.
New South Wales Racing Chairman Of Stewards, Ray Murrihy, revealed that the situation was far from ideal ahead of 2013 Doncaster Mile Day.
“It’s pretty dismal over here, you can’t paint any different picture than that,” Murrihy said.
“It’s just one of those unfortunate things we can’t control.
“But it’s a great days racing, it’s just a pity the weather gods aren’t kind to us.”
Murrihy admitted that if the weather got too severe, or the track too dangerous, the 2013 Doncaster Mile Day could be cancelled.
“The risk is if it continued to rain heavily and it affected visibility,” he said.
“There is no semblance of surface water or drainage problems that would cause us to call it off that way.
“It’s what happens when the track opens up, that’s the issues. We’ll just have to watch the weather.”
Meetings at Coffs Harbour and Kembla Grange have already been abandoned and mass scratchings have taken place at Royal Randwick.
