Black Caviarhas given the crowds at Caulfield Racecourse today a show as she graced the course for her farewell gallop.
The superstar mare donned a specially designed saddle cloth which said “BC 25” in honour of her 25 unbeaten race starts throughout her career.
Despite the fact that the carnival was over in Melbourne, people flocked to Caulfield to bear witness to Black Caviar’s final appearance at the track.
Black Caviar looked in top condition as she proved that she had indeed recovered from her swansong in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes at Royal Randwick last weekend. The six-year-old won the $1 million race by three lengths against one of her toughest field yet, making it a perfect end to a fairytale story.
Trainer Peter Moody was at Caulfield today to thank the crowds for attending and shine some further light on her shock retirement.
“Our last win was probably better than her first. That’s the way a champion deserves to go out,” Moody said.
“It’s been one hell of a ride. I’m really just lost for words. Thanks very much for enjoying my little girl.
“I’m very grateful that you’ve all come out here to see her off.”
Black Caviar will now be sent to the paddock to enjoy some well-deserved time to herself before beginning her broodmare career in the spring.
While Black Caviar’s career may have ended, there is still an abundance of feature races taking place at Royal Randwick today.
