Pierro Short Favourite in 2013 Doncaster Mile Betting

Classy colt Pierro has been in dominant form so far at the 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and the 2013 Doncaster Mile betting market suggests that will continue this weekend.

Sydney’s number one colt has opened at $2.20 in the bookmaker.com.au betting market as he shoots for a fourth consecutive victory and a sixth career Group 1.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained galloper has a weighty task to carry 57kg but received a favour yesterday when drawing a plum barrier four position.

“You take all the favours you can get, very happy with it [barrier four],” Owner Greg Kolivos said.

Despite the Doncaster boasting a field containing 13 Group 1 winners, no other runner comes close to Pierro in the market.

In fact, Bart Cummings-trained filly Norzita ($8) is the only other horse under double figures.

Norzita has been in flying form, having finished third in the Coolmore Classic before taking out the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes.

In-form mare Appearance has received some early attention in the market and occupies the third line of betting at $12.

The Guy Walter-trained mare will chase a third consecutive Group 1 win this weekend after flying home to win the Coolmore Classic and the Queen Of The Turf Stakes.

Last year’s runner-up Shoot Out has terrific form at Randwick and over 1600m. He’s a $15 chance.

But Chris Waller’s stable star will have to overcome the topweight of 58kg if he is to go one better than last year.

There is no shortage of quality in the field and there are some classy horses at big prices.

2012 Australian Derby winner Ethiopia will run first-up and is a $17 chance and is joined at the price by last year’s Australian Oaks winner Streama.

Just behind the pair are consistent mare Red Tracer ($19), Queensland gelding Solzhenitsyn ($21) and Emirates Stakes winner Happy Trails ($26).
