Classy Queensland colt Better Than Ready heads strong nominations for the eight-race program at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
With the Brisbane Winter Carnival just around the corner, the calibre of horses entered in Queensland races is beginning to improve.
The Kelly Schweida-trained Better Than Ready is nominated for the 2013 Mick Dittman Plate (1000m) which will be his first race since running fifth in the Newmarket Handicap.
The son of More Than Ready is believed to be aimed at Queensland’s Group 1 sprints, the 2013 BTC Cup and 2013 Doomben 10,000, but that may change if Black Caviar arrives in the sunshine state.
One of the more interesting Brisbane nominations this weekend is Chris Waller’s former Doncaster winner Rangirangdoo in the 2013 Bert Hinklker Handicap (1200m).
Allocated 61kg, the dual Group 1 winner is joined in Hinkler Handicap nominations by stablemate Firebolt and Singapore Group 1 winner Green Birdie.
Firebolt was a consistent performer at last year’s Brisbane Winter Carnival, finishing second behind Solzhenitsyn twice and winning the Listed Tatt’s Mile.
Other Hinkler Handicap nominations include Robert Heathcote-trained pair Excellantes and Funtantes and Group 3 winner Startsmeup.
Entered for the 2013 Members’ Handicap is Peter Moody’s grey import Voila Ici and Brisbane Carnival regular Ginga Dude.
Voila Ici was fourth in the Turnbull Stakes at the Spring Carnival while Ginga Dude won the Group 3 Tatt’s Cup last June.
Brisbane’s leading trainer dominates nominations for the 2013 Juanmo Stakes (1200m), having entered quality quartet Fillydelphia, Funtantes, Hidden Kisses and Fire Up Fifi.
Also nominated for the Juanmo are talented Gold Coast mare Alltherightmoves and Emmalene who received no luck in running when last in the Sapphire Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
