Guleph Wins 2013 ATC Sires Produce Stakes – Overreach Third

Darley filly Guelph has emerged from deep in the field to produce a flying finish and win the Group 1 2013 ATC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick today.

Golden Slipper winner Overreach led into the straight before being tackled by Scandiva.

At one stage it looked to be a race in two before Guelph showed an appreciation for the extra distance and the long Randwick straight to fly past the leaders.

The daughter of Exceed And Excel was coming off a fourth-place finish in the Golden Slipper after failing when well backed in the Blue Diamond Stakes in February.

Trainer Peter Snowden has always had a strong opinion of the filly and praised her ability to continue to perform in what has been a long preparation.

“I let them tell me what they want to do and she’s been saying all week it [the Golden Slipper run]  hasn’t hurt me at all,” Snowden said

“She’s a good eater, she’s good in the stable, she looks after herself and produces her best on raceday when it counts.”

Snowden said he would wait and see how Guelph pulls up before deciding her next move but said the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) in two weeks is a tempting proposition.

“Gee she was impressive today you’d have to give it a lot of thought,” he said.

McEvoy endorsed the filly’s potential to step up in distance in the Champagne, describing her as a “dream to be around.”

“She’s still only two but she’s just doing it really well,” McEvoy said.

“The world’s her oyster trip wise.”

A number of these horses will go on to the Champagne Stakes in two weeks so follow the form and back a winner at bookmaker.com.au.

There has never been a better time to sign up at the Australian-owned bookie who are currently offering a huge $500 bonus bet offer to new customers in celebration of the Autumn Racing Carnival.
