Chris Waller’s consistent mare Arinosa has continued her impressive rise through the grades to win the Group 2 2013 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Randwick today.
It was the fourth consecutive win for the Chris Waller-trained grey and by far the biggest of her career.
The five-year-old emerged in the straight from a tightly-bunched field to put a space on her rivals and claim a dominant victory from Miss Stellabelle and Forarainyday.
Waller said it was hard to explain her outstanding form and will give her a shot at Group 1 level in the 2013 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at the Brisbane Winter Carnival.
“It’s amazing what she’s done, it’s something you can’t explain,” Waller said.
“It’s amazing what confidence does for horses.
“She just goes from one step to another, she’s taken on better horses and still winning. It’s something quite unbelieveable.
“Just a week or two in the paddock and then we’ll get her ready for Queensland and that will be her chance at a Group 1.”
Brenton Avdulla has ridden Arinosa since she her streak began in the Greys Plate at Flemington in November and said it was amazing how much she keeps improving.
“Chris has done a super job with her,” Avdulla said.
“If you told me a year ago I’d be here riding her in the Sapphire Stakes and not winning, but absolutely smashing them in the Sapphire Stakes, I would’ve thought you were joking.
“She’s been dominant in form. She’s brought her A-game and it’s just shocked me how well she keeps going.”
Arinosa has now won nine of 26 career starts.
