Open 2013 Doncaster Prelude Betting Market

There is no shortage of quality in the Group 3 2013 Doncaster Prelude (1600m) field and as far as the betting is concerned it is set to be an open affair at Randwick on Saturday.

Current favourite at $5 is Mahisara who ran fifth in the Newcastle Newmarket first-up after ending his spring campaign with back-to-back victories in Melbourne.

The Paul Messara-trained galloper takes on a number of horses well into their preparations including last-start winner Havana Rey ($5.50).

The four-year-old gelding is coming off a strong Ajax Stakes victory and has won three of his past four starts.

Trained by Bjorn Baker, Havana Rey also finished 1 1/2 lengths off Shoot Out when fifth in Group 1 Chipping Norton last month.

The form guide has Chris Waller’s new import Beaten Up ($8) as a last-start ninth in the Ajax Stakes but many were impressed with the way he finished off.

The son of Beat Hollow was a Group 3 winner in the UK and has also raced in Dubai.

Joining Beaten Up at $8 is Alma’s Fury who won the Group 2 Apollo Stakes in February and has been solid in two starts since.

Also under double figures is Darley-owned mare Raspberries who is coming off a fourth-place finish in the Newcastle Newmarket.

The daughter of Lonhro has won seven of 25 starts and is a dual Group 3 winner.

In a cluttered market there are a number of runners between $10 and $15. Included in that are Skyerush ($14), Class Is Class ($15) and Jacquinot Bay ($15).

At big odds of $34 is Niblick who is stepping up in class but heads into the race on the back of two consecutive Listed level wins.
