Julienas Betting Favourite in 2013 Chairman’s Quality

Gai Waterhouse-trained import Julienas is expected to continue his strong autumn form on his way to the Sydney Cup and will start as favourite in the Group 2 2013 Chairman’s Quality (2600m) at Randwick on Saturday.

The six-year-old import is a $3.70 top elect at bookmaker.com.au and will chase a third consecutive win this weekend.

A son of Cape Cross, Julienas was strong when winning both the Sky High Stakes and Manion Cup by two lengths.

Second in the market is Kris Lees-trained entire Hathras ($4) who is dropping back in class after running seventh in the BMW.

Prior to the BMW the former German galloper put together back-to-back victories in restricted grade.

No other horse comes close to the top two in betting but Lloyd Williams-owned seven-year-old Mourayan ($8) is well regarded.

The son of Alhaarth will carry the top weight of 58.5kg and showed his quality during the spring when winning the Group 3 Craven Plate and running seventh in the Melbourne Cup.

Sharing the next line of betting at $10 are in-form gallopers Permit and Dance With Her.

Permit is coming off consecutive seconds and won this event last year.

Dance With Her was a Group 2 runner-up in the Brisbane Cup last winter and is coming off a third-place Manion Cup effort.

Trainer David Brideoake is pleased with the consistent mare and said she is likely to head to the Sydney Cup in two weeks.

“She’s had a good week and she’s in very good order, so we’ll run Saturday then two weeks into the Sydney Cup, which has always been the plan,” Brideoake said.

Promising Peter Moody-trained Group 2 winner Vatuvei is a $16 chance and is expected to appreciate the extra distance after running seventh in the Easter Cup.

Others in the market include Canberra gelding Coliseo ($14) and last-start winners Aliyana Tilde ($14) and Tremec ($17).
