While Flemington horseman John Sadler’s main focus this upcoming Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival is on getting his talented mare Lady Melksham to the 2013 Robert Sangster Stakes, he is also eyeing off another Group 1 target at the meeting for his imported young filly Energia Elegante.
Consistent four-year-old Artie Schiller mare Lady Melksham is on track for a trip to Adelaide’s Morphettville Racecourse on April 27 for the $400,000 Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (Sportingbet Classic) (1200m), won last year by the world’s best mare Black Caviar, having won first-up at Moonee Valley with another run to come this weekend at Flemington.
Also a possible runner for Sadler at Flemington’s Saturday meet is Agnes Gold three-year-old Energia Elegante who has been nominated for the $80,000 Community Raceday Handicap (1400m) against her own kind.
She has had just the one run to date down under when debuting at Moonee Valley on March 11 with a fifth to Spelldancer in a 1600m handicap.
Prior to that the known wet-tracker had four starts in Brazil on Slow – Heavy tracks producing three victories, most notably a Group 2 success over 1500m in May last year.
Sadler is hoping to see improvement from her second-up at Flemington this weekend over 200m less as he eyes a start for her in the $400,000 Group 1 Schweppes Australasian Oaks (2000m) on Robert Sangster Stakes Day.
“We’ll see whether she’s going to stay and if she is then maybe she’ll go to Adelaide for one of the Oaks races there,” he said.
