Zamorar Has Group 1 2013 Goodwood Glory in Sights

Victorian sprinter Zamorar will be given his chance to chase top grade success this autumn in the Group 1 2013 Goodwood (1200m) at Morphetville on May 11.

The consistent four-year-old will go into the Goodwood second-up, kicking off his autumn campaign in the Group 3 2013 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) at Morphethville on Saturday.

Zamorar has shown plenty of quality in his career so far, winning four of 13 starts but only missing out on a top three finish on two occasions.

The Scandal Keeper gelding signalled his potential for bigger things in the early spring when running second in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes, third in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap and second in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes.

Trainer David Bourne believes his charge has developed physically since his last campaign.

“The only difference that I can tell from the last time he was in work was that he looked like a three-year-old whereas now he looks like a four-year-old,” Bourne told Racing Victoria.

“Anyone who knew the horse previously would be able to tell that he’s physically matured.”

This weekend will be Zamorar’s second trip to Adelaide after running fourth in the Group 2 Centrebet Classic from a wide barrier last March.

“He drew barrier 10 of 10, got trapped three-deep the whole way, worked hard and battled on to run a close fourth so you’d just like to see him draw a good barrier,” Bourne said.

The Goodwood will be the sprinter’s second outing at Group 1 level, having run fourth to Sepoy in the Coolmore Stud Stakes as a three-year-old.

There are no shortage of Victorians nominated for the RN Irwin Stakes. Joining Zamorar in the entries for the $115,000 sprint are Mick Price-trained pair Loveyamadly and Lankan Rupee, Listed winner Winter King, Anthony Freedman’s gelding Resuce Mission and Peter Moody-trained trio Kulgrinda, Justify That and Embark.
