Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The rain has fallen in Sydney and while the course is currently in the Slow range predictions of more showers, jockeys saying it is racing more like a Heavy track and the continued chopping up of the turf with each race has affect the 2013 The BMW betting markets for Golden Slipper Day Race 5.
Due to jump at 2:35pm (AEST) there are 12 stayers engaged in this year’s $2.25 million Group 1 The BMW (2400m) with the easing favourite being Fiveandahalfstar now out to $3.60.
Anthony Cummings’ Victoria Derby winning three-year-old comes off two nice Group 1 seconds most recently in the Ranvet Stakes here but hasn’t handled any of their wet track assignments to date, and there’s been three, making them a risk for some punters.
They are out to $3.60 now and even though they’ve got the right draw (6) and form, coming up against some older rivals under WFA over the 2400m isn’t all together convincing.
Punters then are looking at where the value could be in The BMW wet track form and statistics explaining the market moves on a number of nicely priced chances including reigning Sydney Cup winner Niwot in from $31 to $26.
The veteran eight-year-old was eighth in the Ranvet last time out but that was over the 2000m and over more distance here they come back into contention especially as they are undefeated on heavy ground.
There’s also been money come in for a few shorter in the markets including the $7 second picks Maluckyday and Hathras (in from $7.50) and the great valued Sangster ($15 into $13) who is one of the Races.com.au best rated chances here.
Drawn in gate three, which might present some problems that close to the fence, the Trent Busuttin-trained Kiwi raider Sangster comes off a seventh in the Ranvet Stakes which can be forgiven as they dropped back from winning the Auckland Cup over the two miles the start before to the 2000m.
Sangster handles all ground, won a Group 2 over the 2400m leading into the Auckland Cup and is definitely worth a look at.
Le Roi also continues to firm now into $17 after being found in the twenties earlier in the week making them the most consistent The BMW betting market mover this year.
Prepared by Adelaide’s Tony McEvoy the Areion four-year-old has won four from seven since coming over from France including the Group 3 Summer Cup over this track and distance on a Slow (6) last December.
Also put in an excellent resuming run on March 23 at Rosehill when finishing third behind the 2013 Sydney Cup favourite Julienas in the Sky High Stakes over 1900m giving them all the right form for today’s showdown.
