There are 12 runners engaged in this year’s $2.25 million Group 1 The BMW (2400m), due to jump as Rosehill Race 5 at 2:35pm (AEST), and taking a brief look at the field there are:

  • 3 Chris Waller-trained hopefuls
  • 6 previous Group 1 winners

Current The BMW odds are led by the three-year-old Fiveandahalfstar, now out to $3.20, who is looking for their first win of the season after four consecutive second place finishes.

Fiveandahalfstar comes via the two Group 1 races last year’s The BMW winner Manighar won in the lead-up having finished runner-up in both the Australian Cup and the Ranvet Stakes.

That last race is definitely considered the form line for The BMW too with the next two best fancied in the markets being Ranvet Stakes winner Foreteller ($6.50) and third placed Maluckyday ($7.50).

The only other runner under $10 in betting is then exciting German import Hathras at an equal price with Maluckyday for their first black type assignment after two resounding wins in Sydney last month.

Along with the form on this dominant four there’s also he likes of Auckland Cup winner Sangster ($15), clear market mover Le Roi ($19) and even Sydney Cup champ and known wet-tracker Niwot ($31) among others with a genuine chance of an upset The BMW result.
